updates, updates

i feel a bit woozy today and wondering if this is still part of the first trimester sickness. i think it is. ah well...
more than two weeks have gone and i successfully surpassed (hmm... almost) the first three months of pregnancy.

anyway, i think it's time to write some updates here... *agiw*

Ballarat Trip

last march 10, we had ballarat trip to visit sovereign hill, a popular attraction in the town. the place/park is like the ones we can see in western movies where the town is surrounded with old-fashioned buildings and stores. and the people (staffs) are also wearing "past-era" garments. we have also attended some learning sessions about the discovery of gold in australia and enjoyed the ride in the coach (kalesa).

An Offer

about two weeks ago, i received a call from one of the biggest IT recruitment companies here in melbourne. the headhunter told me that there is a company in need of an abaper and she asked for my consent to submit my resume to the company. i gave her the go signal to do so as i was quite excited about the good opportunity. then after few days, she invited me to have a talk with her in their office. the meeting went very well and informed me that the employer will schedule an interview with me. i was really looking forward to it and really prepared for it. then when i finally received the call about the detail and logistics, i felt a bit hesitation because their main office (which will possibly be the site for this job) is in a suburb. i even asked my husband to accompany me (weekend before the interview) for a "test trip" to see and experience how long would it take to go to the address. and i was right, it is damn far from the city (imagine! 1 hour and 10 minute travel via train/tram and bus).

anyhow, i still attended the one-on-one interview with the company's manager and his team. again, the meeting with them went well and i had a feeling that i impressed them in the best way i could. before i left, the manager even told me that they will be arranging another series of interview, this time with the IT & HR manager. i was so pleased to hear that.

then the following day, i started to weigh up all the possible scenarios if ever i accept the offer. i would love to have the job (considering it's a permanent role) yet i have to consider my pregnancy. i just decided to email the headhunter and let her understand all my concerns/requests regading the offer. i raised the issues about the location, the status of my visa and the maternity leave. then after a week of exchanging emails and calls with the headhunter for the updates, she finally told me that the company is considering another candidate for the position. at that very moment, i sensed that the job was not really meant for me. i just also informed the headhunter that i cannot accept the job 'cause i really have an issue with the location. afterall, the bub is more important than the job. no regrets.

fun weekend at frankston

last friday night, we went to a simple despedida party for our fellow pinoy friend, Eian. the party was held in Carrum suburb in Frankston, just 50-minute train trip from melbourne cbd.

we had a delightful dinner consisting of filipino food (shrimp hilabos, green mango salad w/ bagoong, salted egg w/ tomato -- to name a few) which i was craving for! the gathering was well-organized by Gina (Eian's girlfriend). the house which they rented for a week was so homely.

then around midnight, we decided to play Pictionary. we formed three teams which is composed of course of partners (per team) and we assigned Bianca (one of our accenture colleagues) as our moderator. Tonton and I won on the first round :-) then we decided to go to bed around 3am already as we have to wake up early to go to the beach.

then, the following morning we (me, Tonton & the Ibarra family) headed to the nearby beach. while Eian & Gina accompanied Bianca to the airport heading back to manila. the beach (which we called BonBeach because of its powdered-bone-like texture sand) was a 15-minute walk from the house. the weather was quite fine while we were on our way.

but after 30-minutes (when we finally found a spot to set-up our beach mats and enjoying the beach already), the rain suddenly poured so hard. luckily, we were able to use the mats to cover ourselves and took shelter at one of the few bathing houses along the shore.

we just decided to go back to the house and while we were on our way back, Tonton and I noticed the pairs of footprint in the sand we have created during the walk and took a shot of it (katuwa eh!).

then when we arrived at the house, Eian & Gina were there already with another couple Bong & Anne. we had one more round of "salo-salo" and a very enjoyable chat. and since we did not enjoy much of the beach, we just had a relaxing bask on the backyard jacuzzi. i just had a very short (10 minutes) bath because i was too cautious with my body temperature. i read that extreme body temperature is bad for pregnant woman 'cause it may harm the baby.

well, we really had great time! thanks Eian & Gina, sa uulitin :-)

good buy

two of the few good items we bought (so far) from ebay arrived last wednesday. it's a DVD (title: having a baby) with a bonus baby book.

i got the chance to watch it earlier with Tonton (as he just worked from home today). we learned a lot of advices and pointers on how to cope up with the challenges of being first-time parents. some of my worries and concerns (especially about morning sickness, labour pains) were covered and clearly discussed. it's funny also that some of the things i experience (such as cravings & sleepless nights) in my pregnancy are also encountered by the women featured in the DVD, that's why somehow i got to relate to them too.

well, i could say that it was really a good buy and worth every cent (got it for just $27). it was far cheaper than the one we saw in myer which costs almost $30 (DVD only). clever, hehe :)
